Guardians of the Garth and Gill Green

Cawood Parish Council are delighted to welcome the Year 6 children at Cawood Church of England Primary School in their new role of Guardians of the Garth and Gill Green as part of their community awards scheme.

Mrs Walker’s class have already been hard at work clearing vegetation around young Whitebeam trees planted last year which need reduced competition from weeds to enable them to thrive.

They have been  re-spraying the “dog poo” signs along the path as the many children and adults using the Garth are keen to remind dog owners to pick up, bag and bin their dog’s waste.

They have snipped brambles and nettles from the path side to make it safer and started to make a pile of vegetation to create habitats in the long grass.

Latest action from the “Guardians” is to tackle re-staining the accessible footbridge over the cut. Looking good so far everyone.

Mrs Walker has sent us some super pictures to share on our new gallery. What a splendid start they’ve made: thank you Year 6!
