On behalf of the village, Cawood Parish Council is honoured to organise a beacon lighting to be able to take part in the national commemorations on June 6th marking 80 years since D Day.

At 9:15 we will have a beacon lighting ceremony with local residents representing the land, sea and air services. Retired Brigadier John McKeown; Retired Squadron Leader Mike Verrill and Royal Navy veteran Ray Swan will be helping light the beacon and lay preacher Jean Huby will say the national words of remembrance.

From 8: 45 pm, the Jolly Ukes of Cawood will play tunes from the era to set the scene.

Everyone is welcome to come together as a community to pay tribute to the events of the “longest day” which helped turn the tide of World War ll, launching the liberation of Europe.

To comply with our public liability insurance cover for the event we ask your co-operation in ensuring access for both filling the beacon on the 5th and lighting it on the 6th by parking elsewhere temporarily please.
